Don’t Stop the Transformation!

Don't Stop the Transformation!

Don’t turn a blind eye to the possibilities originated by a crisis in term of transformations.

The Coronavirus is all over us. Living our life as we did two weeks ago is hardly possible anymore. To guarantee the continuity of the organization and employability, we are looking for quick answers and solutions that are usually not so obvious. We often solve problems with the experience and knowledge we have at hand.

However, we have acquired this knowledge and experience in the past. A crisis does not take the past into account and requires new, untested solutions. So, we will have to come up with a different approach. A crisis forces us to be creative and sometimes come up with controversial solutions.

In our organizational environment, we are often guilty of not challenging the status quo. Instead, we are developing, directing and monitoring more and more on following processes, procedures and protocols, and we feel great about this. Nothing is as lovely as clear agreements and structure. However, it takes insight and courage to ask leaders why things are done the way they are and to challenge the status quo.

In times of crisis, many, if not all of these standards seem to be pushed aside and the leeway within which organizational members can move is increasing. Some organizations recognize this and are developing a more open and transparent environment in order to increase continuous improvement.

Stick to the transformation that has started

And if you’re not doing this already, introduce strategic portfolio management. Proper strategic portfolio management in combination with the Agile transformation ensures that you, as a transformation team and/or organization management, keep an overview of the value creation of your strategic choices. But it also creates insights on whether your strategic choices are still relevant.

In the preliminary stages of a transformation, we at Wemanity always ask about the necessity of the change. The starting point of all change processes that we kick-off is always the “why” question. Why do you want to change? What happens if you do nothing? What is the urgency? What is your burning platform?

Sitting still is not an option

Right now, in time of crisis, is the time to continue the transformation, with all the limitations that are there. Employees, working remote or every other week at the office.  Remote coaching and training via video calls, participating in remote Agile ceremonies by team members and coaches. And find out together where the value and value creation really lie.
